Possible Causes

Generator not charging when running at about 20 m.p.h. with no lights in use. Due to:- |

Broken or loose connection in generator circuit, or regulator not functioning correctly. |
Examine charging and field circuit wiring. Tighten loose connection or renew broken lead. Particularly, examine battery connections. Examine regulator. |
Commutator greasy or dirty.

Clean with soft rag moistened in petrol. |
Giving low or intermittent output, when car is running steadily in top gear. Due to:--

Generator belt slipping.
|
Adjust belt (see Section B). |
Loose or broken connections In generator circuit, |
Examine charging and field circuits wiring. Tighten loose connections or replace broken lead. Particularly examine battery connections. |
Brushes greasy or dirty. |
Clean with soft rag moistened in petrol. |
Brushes worn or not fitted correctly. |
Renew worn brushes. See that brushes bed correctly. |
Regulator not functioning correctly. |
Examine regulator. |
