DESCRIPTION
Two 35 amp. fuses with spares are carried by a separate Fuse Unit. The fuse which bridges terminal blocks1--2 is to protect auxiliary circuits independent of the ignition switch. |
The fuse bridging terminals 3-4 protects those circuits controlled by the ignition switch. The is the Joespeh Lucas Ltd. traditional design for the finest British motoring vehicles, and has stood the test of many vehicular fires of unknown origin, fuses still intact. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
(Refer to Figs. 19 and 20)
The function of the starting system is to crank the engine at a speed high enough to start it. The system includes the starter motor and drive, the battery, a remote control starter switch, and heavy circuit wiring.
The starter utilizes an Integral positive-engagement drive as illustrated in Fig. 20. When the starter is not in use, one of the field coils is connected directly to earth through a set of contacts.
When the starter motor is first connected to the battery, a large current flows through the earthed field coil, actuating a moveable pole shoe. The pole shoe is attached to the starter drive actuating lever, thus the drive is forced into engagement with the flywheel ring gear.
When the moveable pole shoe is fully seated, It opens the field coil earth contacts and the starter Is then in normal operation. A holding coil is used to maintain the moveable pole shoe in the fully seated position, during the time that the starter is turning the engine.
