A CENTURY OF FORD RACING HERITAGE
Ford' racing heritage will be showcased at the 30th annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, presented by Chrysler August 15 - 17, 2003, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The remarkable history of Ford racing will be showcased. As the featured marque, the paddock and special feature exhibition will be filled with everything from the 1901 "Sweepstakes," which Henry Ford drove in his first and only race - a 10-mile competition against Alexander Winton - to the low-slung and mighty GT-40s and Ford-powered Formula One cars.
Many of the greatest names in the sport, from Barney Oldfield to Mario Andretti, have been victorious in Ford or Ford-powered cars through the years and in all type of classes. They include Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Carroll Shelby, Cale Yarborough and A.J. Foyt, among so many others.
"We are delighted with the opportunity to share our rich heritage on this milestone occasion of Ford Motor Company's 100th year and the Monterey Historics' 30th year," stated Edsel Ford, member of Ford Motor Company's board of directors and great grandson of founder, Henry Ford. "Virtually every arena of motorsport has been significantly touched by the Ford oval, and we plan to showcase that diverse history with a sampling of the great cars and great drivers representative of the company's century of winning."
"Ford has the richest and most diverse heritage in motorsports history," explained Earle. "Ford is aboard 110 percent and promises to bring some of its most noteworthy race cars and drivers who were instrumental in their on-track success. Visitors to next year's Rolex Monterey Historics will have plenty to see and hear."
