Editor's Note: This illustration looks NOTHING like your actual Tiger brake disc, hub and wheel mount.

FRONT HUB AND BEARINGS (Fig 11)

To remove and dismantle

1. Apply the handbrake, Jack up the front of the car and remove the front wheel on the side to be dismantled.

2. Remove the brake caliper from the rear face of the stub axle carrier as described in the Section K and suspend nearby on a piece of malleable wire. Do not allow the caliper to hang on its flexible hose.

3. Remove the hub dust cap, extract the split pin holding the hub retaining nut and remove the hub retaining nut and the plain washer.

4. Withdraw the hub by hand as an assembly complete with inner and outer bearings and the oil seal, holding one hand under the outer end of the hub to catch the outer roller assembly.

5. The larger Inner roller assembly can be removed by hand after extracting the oil seal, but if new bearings are to be fitted, the outer races of the old bearings should be removed by tapping them out with a suitable drift.

6. The special distance piece which butts against the stub axle carrier can now be removed if not already with-drawn with the hub assembly.

To reassemble and refit

1. Clean all parts thoroughly and if new bearings are to be fitted, fit the outer races of both bearings centrally into the hub, ensuring that the larger Internal dia-meters of both races are outwards at the respective ends of the hub.

2. Pack the hub and bearings with grease of the correct grade (see Section P). The amount required is one and a half capfuls distributed evenly within the hub shell.

THE HUB DUST CAP WHEN Fitted MUST NOT CONTAIN GREASE.

3. Rest the hub on a clean surface with its outer end downwards and Insert the larger Inner roller assembly followed by a new oil seal lightly greased and gently tapped into position flush with the end of the hub.

4. Press the special distance piece into the centre of the oil seal by hand with its beveled edge upwards.

S. The smaller roller assembly can now be fitted to the outer end of the hub.

6. Fit the complete hub assembly to the stub axle, care-fully holding it in position whilst fitting the washer and the hub retaining nut.

7. Correctly adjust the hub bearings as described in the following paragraphs. Lock the hub retaining nut by fitting a new spilt pin and fit the hub dust cap. DO NOT FILL THE HUB CAP WITH GREASE.

8. Fit the brake caliper to the rear face of the stub axle carrier as described In the Section K. Fit the front wheel and remove the jack.
