Additional Fuses

TIGERs are notoriously under-fused so I came up with some alternate places to insert fuses into the electrical system.

First of all the entire park light and dash light system can be fused by inserting a fuse between the two red wires and terminal number 4 of the lighting switch.

Park and Dash Light Fuse

Secondly a fuse inserted at the "L" terminal of the flasher unit will separate the external lights (most likely to be damaged) from the rest of the circuit.

Signal light Fuse

Thirdly: a 50 amp resetting circuit breaker inserted into the line before the "Dipper Switch" will ensure that your Head light wires will not short out in case of a fender bender. If this fuse trips it resets its self in about 3 seconds so that headlights are restored.

TIP:

  • If you suddenly lose your head lights while driving, whether or not you have this resetting system, hit your left hand signal light. This will warn others that you are in trouble and also, in most cars, will give you enough light to see the centerline. The signal light circuit is separate from the head light system and will work except during a complete electrical failure. Next hit your four way flashers for more emergency lighting and this should give you enough light to stop.

All these fuses should be installed with bayonet and pin type of connectors so that they may be removed and the original wires may plugged back into their respective places.

I installed a six-place fuse block under the dash high up on the left-hand kick panel. I ran wire to the light switch and to the signal light switch and used the remaining four fuses for other things such as a fuel pump fuse, a radio fuse, and a fuse for the washer pump (see Washers). The head light circuit breaker is mounted to the side of the new fuse panel. All wires are color coded to match the original wires. I bundled these new wires together with wire ties and they could be removed with not too much effort if one wished. I personally do not know why any one would want to remove what is surely a combination insurance policy and safely modification.
