Preparing A Tiger To Live In The Arizona Desert

The primary drive belt for the compressor also drives the water pump. The alternator is driven from a separate belt slaved off of the water pump pulley. The evaporator coil (the part that goes inside the car for cooling) was the last piece of the puzzle. It needed to be "matched" in size to the capacity of the compressor and the condenser for proper operation but I also wanted it to look nice since that is the part that everyone sees. I had a couple of units from the RX-7 but they didn't really look all that great. Functionally they were OK but just didn't have the glitz. A friend stopped by one evening and as were chatting he wanted to see the progress. He said he had a nice looking aftermarket under dash unit at home that he had bought for his truck just before his compressor blew up that he would be willing to part with for a reasonable price. We haggled a bit over the price and went to get the unit. It was a perfect fit with adjustable vents in the center and at both ends and had a "pleasant" look about it. It already had the blower fan, expansion valve and temperature control all internal to the unit.
