Colin, born in England, worked for British Airways and predecessors from 1965 to 1988 in
UK, South Africa and Greece. Left to join IATA in Geneva in 1988. Left IATA
in 1997 to work for BA's consulting company, Speedwing, but working from home
in Switzerland. Left Speedwing in November 1999 and now an independent air
transport consultant. Married 28 years to Susan, who works
for the World Conservation (Conversation?) Union (IUCN), the parent
organisation of WWF. Two sons: Simon (24) at hotel school in Switzerland;
Neil (20) at university in the UK studying (huh!) for BA in TV and Video
Production.
Descending through a right hand hairpin at dusk after a long and grueling
day's rallying. Day two of the July 1996 Rallye des Alpes which started in
Geneva and finished in Marseilles. Its an annual Classic Car Rally with a
duration of seven days, but where you can opt to compete only in the first
three days, which we did, covering the French and Swiss Jura, and the Swiss
and Italian Alps, finishing in the ski resort of Verbier. It was our first
competitive motoring event and - for the three-days we participated - we came
half way down (up?) the field of about 75 cars. Too serious for us - see
article on Rallye des Alpes.
Cold, crystal clear day in February 1999, about 15 minutes from our home.
View looking south west towards the city of Geneva. The light patch is the
western end of the lake. Car doesn't handle too well in snow and ice on
regular summer tyres ...
Same day, looking south east across Lake Geneva (biggest lake in Europe)
towards Mont Blanc (biggest mountain in Europe). Mont Blanc is vaguely
discernible to the left of centre - a kind of whitish bit ...
TTFN, Must go; tea's getting cold ...
