Note that the torque rating varies from site to site. Forte site reports 425 ft. lbs. vs. 350 at TTC (TREMEC) Automotive
Oil Recommended: GM Synchromesh, GM part number 12345349 (3 quarts). Optional fluids are Dextron II E and Mercon Synthetic. The GM Fluid runs about $15 a quart.
Miscellaneous notes:
The brake hydraulic line is here too. This may be a good time to replace the entire line to eliminate the long term corrosion mentioned in the News Group.
I used a Centerforce clutch with McLeod annular bearing. Very nice operation and it eliminates the shifting fork. By eliminating the shifting fork, you can clear up 2-3 inches on the drivers foot side for more comfortable location of the right foot. This required some minor plumbing of hydraulics but easier than plumbing a new slave from scratch. I used the rigid 90 6ANfittings to eliminate O-ring leaks. By careful set up and measurements, you can hit the adjustment perfectly the first time. The clutch has operated perfectly from the first day.
I closed off and reinforced the Alpine exhaust hole to strengthen the X-frame. I used the stock X-frame trans mounting holes. I fabricated a custom mount based on the stock holes and the transmission holes. I built the mount to match the stock transmission shock isolator. I used _ inch for the side and 3/8 inch for the center to mount the transmission mount.
Bob Hokanson has prepared a MS Excel Spread sheet for evaluating road speed, r.p.m., and gear options in 4 speed Tiger and 5 speed T-5 transmissions in "Excel Transmission Calculator " . Play with your plans on paper before making the investment. A FREE Excel Spreadsheet Reader download is on the page, as well. You don't have to buy the program to use this gem.
